RS No 1 Colin Archer was built in 1893 as a prototype for a new rescue vessel, built for the rough Norwegian coastline. She proved her seaworthyness, and 37 similar sailing resque cutters were built. She is still sailing, here from a nice sail in the spring of 2015. Read more at www.colinarcher.no and follow us at rs1colinarcher.

Thanks Tor. I've seen 2 interesting security divices. The spinlock floating and then when you detached your feet. I've never seen before. Abrazos from Py.

hej Tor, fin introduktion til ronning og Liteboats! vilka spegel är det som du har på dina solglasögon? hälsar, Monika

👍
Really nice seemanship, that's the way sailing is a relaxed sport👌
It's looks a nice well-maintained yacht. varnish is shiny.
Please translate 😀
Please.Do you know the site self
Ja de liefde voor dit type schip is onuitspreekbaar❤😅😊
Good seamanship never lock a halyard.
Nydelig : ) Synd det ikke ble filmet helt in til kai for det ville vært en sensasjon : )
Beautiful Fair winds
3:12 Would love some footage from on deck and see what you're doing as you tack. Such a lovely vessel, she must be a pleasure to sail.
Working on a film about maneuvering, but complicated production/clipping. Please keep following us. Thanks anyway. Yes, a pleasure :)
Lovely. You can see why seamen of old mostly all had hernias.
With a view to the title, Colin Archer is the boat, named after its Norwegian designer of the same name, not the boy in khaki shorts setting the sails.
Fantastic journey and lovely boat. I have a Litesport 1x, and the quality and the pleasure of sailing in these boat is very high. A rowboat for cruising doesn't need to be beamy and heavy. Anyway it could be interesting to see, how Liteboat would design a dedicated cruising rowboat in modern materials. All the best Per - Denmark
Thanks for comment, Liteboat has something very interesting on the drawingboard, stay tuned!
A picture of excellence.
Thanks!!!!
Excellent,so beautiful!
Bottom line, know your ship and what it does in different conditions. Great seamanship
Beautiful.
Very good. Excelent.
Thank You,for shearing.
Siempre pa delante Thor! Un capo!
Gracias, Hugo😄🌊🚣♂️
I bought one today - very lovely boat built in a very high quality. You can go fast or go far, and there's a lot room for progress with this boat. Summer will never end :-)
Is she that is Colin, a Lugger rig, please Thank you very interested
😃👍👌
How to change the “tack” of the topsail?
Hi Adrian, Topsail stays on the port side on both tacks. We have to accept poor shape on the port tack, but that's how the Archer rig works!
Beautiful. All of it : boat, crew, sail and rope handling, quality shots … thank you
Thanks Vincent
Thank you for an insightful tour of the rig work. Never knew the peak halyard system is designed in two steps. Hope I didn't get that wrong. Is it to facilitate quick scandalizing of the sail and is the two-step hoist a safety feature so that even if the second step hoist fails and came crashing down, it is only the top part collapsing and the bottom first part firmly secured? I do wonder.
Hi Joseph, IF the peak-halyardin-two-steps-system was used in the old days is uncertain, but anyhow; we have found it most useful. It has to be said at the same time that we use scandalizing A LOT in the daily maneuvering. For those who don't, this might be just another complicating detail. But for us, it is important that we find solutions to eliminate danger. We also use scandalizing when jibing in rough downwind to reduce stress on the rig when the gaff swings over. Especially when sailing with unexperienced crew, it is easy to ask them to scandalize. In this way, it is easy and safe to scandalize for everyone. The bottom first part is secured all the time, until the sail goes down after docking. Se also ruclips.net/video/8s04RPieAjs/видео.html
@@eplevelsen Thank you so much.
bella barca.
that was rad. now row it to lofoten LOL. not sure it can take my 115kg.
115 is ok! Free to test. Lofoten next!😀👍
awesome. theres even space for a tackle box.
Enjoyed your video and impressed by mooring under sail, albeit in light conditions. I also loved the anchor winch, which of course was tiny compared to the winch on a Baltic trader I sailed on in the Med; it was the size of a small car. My father, the legendary Mike Hoare, had a similar but smaller Colin Archer type yacht, 36 foot, gaff rigged ketch, in Durban South Africa for quite a number of years in the 1960s. She was named Colin Archer, and was built in Risor, Norway in 1937 by Moen and Nilsen. Apparently she is back in Risor again, not sure. Sturdy boats from another era speak of tradition, craftsmanship and of course they ooze adventure. And how we love them! Regards, Chris Hoare
Magnificent! Thank you
Thanks, Tom!
@@eplevelsen so good to see the old ( better) ways of sailing and seamanship kept alive for the current plastic boat ,gps guided auxiliary equipped sailors to strive for.
Hello Tor, Very interesting video. I am learning a lot. Much appreciated. I bought Emma the CA built in Holland and have taken her to Germany where I live. As far as I can see she is authentically rigged as per the original boats. On the trip back we were intrigued by (almost assaulted by the hook) the single topping lift from the the top of the mizzen for the main boom. I am tempted to change it to more conventional double lifts. Maybe I am missing something. I just wondered if you have any thoughts on the matter? Should the topping lift be detached when under way? Thanks any advice greatly appreciated.
Good to hear about Emma, great boat. The rigs is more or less the same measurements. Look carefully into the details on the differences. About topping lifts, generally adaptable for all ketch gaff rigs, our number 1 topping lift is from the mizzen top. We ALWAYS disconnect this after setting the peak. (The former owners of Emma did this, see woodenships.co.uk/sailing-yacht/colin-archer-gaff-ketch-4/) This has of course a great advantage, as it is never in conflict with the mainsail, but also a disadvantage, as you always will have to remember to connect topping lifts before you scandalize. But the advantage is far greater than the disadvantage. Nevertheless, this mizzen topping lift system has another disadvantage: What do you do when you need to lift the boom for scandalizing in strong downwinds? For this, we have a second option for topping lift, using our topsail halyard. This halyard is of course available in the situation of scandalizing, as the topsail is on deck. The advantage for using this, is 1) Less ropes in the mast (no traditional topping lifts), 2) it runs from the very top of the main mast, to the very end of the boom, makes the gaff, in scandalized position, able to select side of the topping lift. This comes in very handy when sailing downwind in very strong winds, and you will need to scandalize to reduce power on your way to port, or to jib safely. Under very strong winds, we always jib with scandalized main, to avoid serious force on the rig. The gaff will swing under the topsail halyard/topping lift, and easily being peaked in leeward. In this case, there will of course be now force on the mizzen top. Just ask if anything was unclear. Tor
@@eplevelsen Ahaa, Things start to become clearer. I think I need to come to Norway to learn how to sail my boat. Please keep the videos coming great stuff and thanks for coming back to me. Cheers, Fergus

Hej landsgranne! What a wonderful video. I'm dreaming about getting a Colin archer or ingrid. Trying to get a grasp on the maintenance costs before I pull the trigger.
Kom over denne ved en tilfeldighet - fantastisk moro med god sommerstemning, seiling og en passe dose nostalgi. Takk for at den er delt 👍
Takk for hyggelig kommentar, gutta nærmer seg 90 år, men det står bra til med dem!
Very good work !!!
I am sorry I couldn't find this information on your website. What is the hull material?
It's a wooden boat
I would love to do things like this but alas the Tall ships races do not come here to Melbourne Australia....
Short handed? No problem. Great job, Tor.
Beautiful. Exhausting for a lubber like me but beautiful
Thanks Brian!!

Seriously fast. Lovely boat.
How does the boat responds to the waves Thor??
Compare it to slalom skies or off-road cycling, the limitation is not the equipment, it is you. It is all about some practice! Other words: Waves no problem. :)
@@eplevelsen I appreciate your words Tor
This may be my favorite RUclips video ever! Always wondered how topsails were set. Thanks for the beautiful film.
